[/caption]UPS will be deploying "ring scanners" in their parcel operations in the USA. These wearable scanners consist of a hands-free imager that is worn on a finger and a small terminal worn on the wrist or hip.The ring scanner automatically scans based on label-sensing technology, allowing UPS employees to scan barcodes quicker than the "point and shoot" method with current scanners. The scanner - the Motorola RS507 - is an omnidirectional scanner that can scan 1D and 2D barcodes. Being an omnidirectional scanner means that operators don't have to align barcodes with the scanner in order to make a successful scan.UPS is using the scanning technology to improve sorting accuracy. UPS shipping label barcodes include destination information for each package. The scanner can determine if the package is being loaded into the correct trailer or air container. An audible and visible alert identifies any package that's about to be loaded incorrectly.
