Australia Post has announced today various initiatives and payment increases that will benefit Licensees at rural LPOs.
This is a great win for POAAL and members who have pushed long and hard for improvements to payments and services at rural LPOs.
EPOS at manual LPOs - it has been a long haul but Australia Post has announced that it will install FlexiPOS (a slim-line version of EPOS) at all remaining manual LPOs free of charge to the Licensee.
This is a significant win for Licensees at manual LPOs, and follows POAAL's successful push for EPOS to be installed at many LPOs under the Rural Transaction Centre and Bank@Post programmes.
Great news for customers too, as there will be more services available at their local LPO. It also strengthens the overall postal network - the reach of the post office network is one of the key selling points of Australia Post's services.
Well done to all the Licensees at manual LPOs who have consistently supported POAAL's push for EPOS at manual LPOs.
Increased minimum income payment - The minimum income payment was introduced some years ago in response to lobbying by POAAL for a guaranteed minimum Australia Post income for small LPOs. POAAL has successfully pushed for increases in the past. It has now been increased to $20,000 p.a.
Contractor accommodation - The fee for hosting Contractors will increase from 1 July 2014. POAAL is in ongoing discussions with Australia Post regarding other Contractor issues.
EPOS shortfall fee - as foreshadowed by POAAL, Australia Post has agreed to remove the EPOS shortfall fee. This will make a difference to a number of one-terminal LPOs in country and metro areas, including those in holiday areas that see their transaction levels fluctuate from month to month.
POAAL is still in discussions with Australia Post on other matters relating to rural LPOs.
Thank you all for your input and ongoing support of our discussions with Australia Post.
