The UK's Royal Mail has announced that it will deliver parcels and open delivery offices on Sundays. Sunday delivery will commence in June within the Greater London area.
Despite figures showing healthy growth for the UK parcel industry as a whole, growth in Royal Mail’s parcel business has been affected by strong competition and the impact of price increases.
The union representing UK postal workers has said that it was in talks with Royal Mail to ensure postal workers affected by the service changes receive good terms and conditions, and are not forced to take Sunday shifts.
Earlier this year rival parcel companies DPD UK and Hermes announced plans to launch Sunday parcel delivery services. DPD UK will be launching its Sunday service from 20 July 2014.
