4.5-ton Renault "Maxity Electric" truck[/caption]France's La Poste is experimenting with a new Renault electric truck equipped with a hydrogen-powered range extender. The truck has a hydrogen-powered fuel cell. The field test is scheduled to last a year. According to Renault, the vehicle generates little noise and only releases water vapour. It has a range of 200km and a payload of one ton. When the vehicle is running, the fuel cell is capable of delivering a maximum power of 20 kW and, once that threshold has been reached, the batteries kick in to supply whatever power is still required. The heat released by the cell is reused to warm the passenger compartment, which avoids having to consume any energy stored in the batteries.
