DHL in Germany will trial a new temporary package container for couriers to leave packages securely at apartments when the recipient isn't at home. The trial is in partnership with Deutsche Telekom and e-commerce company Zalando and will begin in Berlin in 2015.
The "PaketButler" is a foldable container that the addressee can leave outside their front door when they are expecting a delivery. It's secured by a belt that the customer wedges in their front door. The DHL courier can then open the container using a RFID key, leave the parcel inside, and then lock the parcel up securely. The customer then uses their own key to retrieve the parcel and take the PaketButler inside the apartment.
