This week POAAL Director Dennis Jenner met with Bernie Ripoll, the Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business, to discuss small business issues impacting Licensees and Mail Contractors.As Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business, Mr Ripoll also had responsibility for franchising issues. Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business Bernie Ripoll with POAAL Director Dennis Jenner[/caption]Dennis discussed the Government’s plan to strengthen the $130 bn franchising sector and how “acting in good faith" may assist members in their dealings with Australia Post. POAAL’s submission to this review made several recommendations.Plans to tackle late business payments by Government to small business may also assist Licensees and Mail Contractors recovering back payment when reviews are undertaken.Dennis also discussed ongoing Government ownership of Australia Post, the impact the digital economy is having on Licensees' businesses - especially in rural and remote areas - and the need for all LPOs to have technology capabilities.
