Australia Post Managing Director and CEO Ahmed Fahour today addressed a large group of POAAL members at a POAAL meeting in Melbourne. The meeting, held in the Rydges Bell City ballroom, also featured a presentation from Workforce Guardian's David Bates.Mr Fahour said that he wanted to give Licensees a "big picture view" of the issues confronting the Australia Post business.[caption id="attachment_5989" align="alignnone" width="398"]

He advised that speculation is just speculation.Mr Fahour outlined three areas where Australia Post is focusing:1. Delivering on its obligations under the Australian Postal Corporation Act, including meeting its Community Service Obligations while generating a commercial rate of return to the shareholder.2. Transformation of the business, considering that the letter is no longer the exclusive form of written communication. He said that it is his and his team's job to help Licensees through this transformation.3. Working with Licensees, Contractors and employees. "The success of Licensees is hinged upon the success of Australia Post," Mr Fahour said.He also emphasised the value of trust, and how trust underpins the strength of the network and Australia Post's ability to seek out new work.Mr Fahour outlined how Australia Post is seeking new business for the post office network, including offering government services.Licensees asked Mr Fahour questions on topics such as making all Australia Post services available at all LPOs, minimum order quantities, how Australia Post will stop transferring business away from LPOs and what plans Australia Post has for rural post offices.David Bates, Managing Director of employment relations firm Workforce Guardian, gave a compelling presentation on the 5 most common HR mistakes made by Licensees.He urged Licensees to be aware of their obligations as employers, noting the heavy fines that can be imposed for seemingly minor breaches. David then led a question and answer session on employing staff at LPOs.Also present were representatives from GWS Network Insurance Brokers, ILW Wollermann business brokers and Marlow & Co business brokers.
