The ACCC today published a preliminary view proposing to not object to Australia Post’s proposed increase to the Basic Postage Rate (BPR) from $1.50 to $1.70.
Concession and seasonal greeting stamps prices will remain at 60 and 65 cents respectively.
Australia Post has reported that in the first half of FY25, letter volumes dropped a further 10.6%, and the letter service returned a loss of $83.7 million.
Last November, Australia Post lodged its draft price notification with the ACCC, proposing a BPR increase of 20 cents to take effect from 1 July 2025. POAAL made a submission to the ACCC’s opening round of consultation.
In its preliminary view published today, the ACCC notes that Australia Post is not likely to recover revenue in excess of efficient costs for its reserved letter service - even with the proposed price increase.
The ACCC has opened another round of consultation, which will close on 12 May 2025.
Following the conclusion of the consultation period, and pending no objection from the ACCC, Australia Post will lodge a formal application with the ACCC. Australia Post will provide customers with a minimum of 30 days’ notice ahead of any price changes coming into effect.
