Anti-dog device for UK posties

Posties in the UK are being equipped with devices designed to scare off dogs.

The devices release compressed air and makes a hissing sound. It is being trialled by staff in south-east England and could be rolled out nationally if it the incidence of dog attacks drops.

The Royal Mail has revealed that in 2008/09 there were 4,810 attacks on staff, compared with 4,067 the previous year.

UK posties are instructed to never enter a property if there are unrestrained dogs.
